Kelly Kicking Cancer awarded two soccer scholarships in 2018. This scholarship, dedicated in Kelly O’Mahoney’s memory, is awarded based upon many factors, not just soccer prowess. Overcoming adversity both on and off the soccer field, strength of character and good citizenship are required.
The 2018 $1,000 Soccer Scholarship was awarded to Miss Zoe Perrin of St. Scholastica Academy in Covington, LA. Zoe earned the scholarship from a field of outstanding applicants, and will be attending and playing soccer at Samford University in Birmingham, AL. Making the presentation of the $1,000 scholarship is Larry Rolling of Covington, LA.
However, the committee was so moved by her story, that a second soccer scholarship of $500 was awarded to Miss Macayla Bass of Mandeville High School. Macayla will be attending McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA. An outstanding performer on the soccer pitch, Macayla gave up a year of her high school and club soccer to attend to her family’s needs. Despite the year layoff, she was still highly sought-after by college recruiters. It is this kind of selfless dedication and love that Kelly Kicking Cancer recognizes and honors. The $500 scholarship was presented by Susan O'Mahoney and Larry O'Mahoney. Macayla was accompanied by her mother Hillary.
Congratulations to these two outstanding young women. Their futures are very bright!
